dừa khô = DRY COCONUT, SO WHY CAN'T I FIND IT?!

we went to this huge mega store/supermarket yesterday and OMG there was like 2,000 people pushing and shoving, stocking up for chinese new years. i decided that i'd make truffles for my aunty and uncle, so i spent the day hunting around for the right ingredients.

condensed milk, and cream cheese i found no sweat. but they obviously didn't sell nz/australian brands so i had to come up with substitutes for things like toffee pops and arrowroot biscuits. the closest consistancy of toffee pops i could think of were snickers bars, and for the arrowroot biscuits, i just picked this random chinese packet because the picture looked like the closest thing to arrowroots haha

what i had trouble looking for was friggin' desiccated coconut. i didn't know the word for it either. the word for coconut in vietnamese is "dừa" and there isn't a transliteration for "desiccated" so the closest thing i could think of was "dry" which is "khô". do you think anyone knew what i was going on about? nah.

anywho, i ended up just rolling them in the crushed biscuits. they turned out alright too. they don't look appealing lolz but they taste good. kinda like eating cookie dough almost. good times getting my jamie oliver on haha!
