SLUMDOG MILLIONARE SUCKS...

i'm so unimpressed at danny boyle's SLUMDOG MILLIONARE, a badly scripted palagi portrayal of the beautiful story "Q&A" written by indian, vikas swarup.

cast? brilliant. setting? amazing. story-line? shit. the movie lost the essence of the entire story. if you can get your hands on a copy of the book BEFORE watching the movie, I BEG YOU to do so, and you'll understand what i'm talking about.

i know books are always better than the movies (shit, i've read all the harry potter books and the movies miss out shitloads) but with this movie, it's different. when you try and make a film about a culture that is not your own. one that people already have negative stereotypes about. one that is a key element in the entire story which is practically left out completely, well that's when you shouldn't take such a task on.

i'm not saying danny boyle sucks. no. trainspotting was fucken awesome. he got that spot on, because he's british. and he was dealing with brit culture. something he is a product of and understands completely.

but slumdog millionare? an INDIAN story, about a product of INDIA??? he doesn't even have any indian in him. or any indian heritage. so how can he understand? man, i friggin hate when white people try and make a 'cultural' film when they think they hit the spot, but really...

anywho, the sound track is totally off the hook. here's one of my faves "jai ho" which translates to "victory to thee" the lyrics are surreal, but i won't bore you with them.
